Black History Month

February gives us an important opportunity to pause, reflect, and recognize the profound impact that Black Americans have had, and continue to have, on our nation and on communities like Moreno Valley. Black History Month honors resilience, creativity, leadership, and the ongoing pursuit of opportunity and equity.

It’s a time to acknowledge the history that shaped our country, while also celebrating the present-day contributions that move us forward. From educators and artists to entrepreneurs, public servants, and community advocates. Black voices help strengthen the fabric of our City in meaningful ways every day.

Black History Month also invites us to listen, learn, and grow. Whether that means exploring history you may not have learned before, attending local events, supporting Black-owned businesses, or having thoughtful conversations with family and friends, these moments of engagement help deepen understanding, compassion, and connection.

Here in Moreno Valley, we are proud to reflect these values in meaningful ways. This month, our iconic “M” on Box Springs Mountain shines in red, black, and green as a visible sign of recognition and respect. Lighting up our skyline is a reminder that Black history is an essential part of our shared story.

As we observe Black History Month in Moreno Valley, let’s remember to carry this spirit beyond February. By celebrating our differences and standing together, we continue building a City that reflects the strength, unity, and promise of all who call it home.
