Kalialani Jimenez, a 17-year-old Senior at Grand Terrace High School, is a remarkable student-athlete with a 3.9 GPA. Balancing rigorous academics with an active sports schedule, Kalialani exemplifies dedication and determination.
Currently, she is a standout in Cross Country and Track and Field, having also played soccer and softball in previous years. Her journey as a runner began in her freshman year of high school, a sport she had never imagined pursuing. “I dreaded running three miles as a freshman,” Kalialani recalls, “but now, running six to eight miles feels like a breeze.” As a four-year Varsity Cross Country athlete and team captain in her Senior year, Kalialani has embraced the discipline, commitment, and endurance required to excel in the sport.
Kalialani’s passion for running seems to run in the family. Her grandfather, uncle, and aunt were also runners, inspiring her to take up the sport. Her dedication has led to significant achievements, including winning League Championships in Cross Country in 2022 and Track and Field in March 2024. “Both accomplishments were hard-earned and worth every effort,” she says, crediting her success to her coach, Bert, who she describes as an incredible mentor.
Sports have been a part of Kalialani’s life since she was four years old. From ballet recitals to soccer fields and softball diamonds, her athletic journey has shaped her into the person she is today. Beyond sports, Kalialani’s interests include baking, reading, writing, and playing the piano, a skill she has honed since age seven. Her favorite pieces to play are songs from the movie La La Land, reflecting her love for piano and jazz music.
Academically, Kalialani has earned numerous accolades, including the San Bernardino County Award of Excellence and a consistent spot on the Principal’s Honor Roll throughout high school. Her plans include attending a four year university to pursue a degree in Political Science or Law, eventually aiming to become a Corporate Defense Attorney.
When asked about her greatest influences, Kalialani speaks fondly of her Abuelita and her uncle Mark. “My Abuelita has always been a kind and loving person, dedicating herself to her family. Her hard work inspires me every day,” she shares. “My uncle Mark has been a constant source of encouragement, cheering me on at races and inspiring me with his own dedication to running.”
Kalialani also acknowledges the unwavering support of her parents, who have guided and motivated her throughout her high school years.
In addition to her sports and academic commitments, Kalialani is an active member of ASB, where she helps create forever memories for students and staff. She takes pride in representing her school at conferences and board meetings, crediting the program’s success to the exceptional leadership of Mr. Ruiz. Kalialani notes that none of these accomplishments would be possible without his unwavering dedication, remarkable personality, and outstanding character, which make him an invaluable asset to the program.
Kalialani lives by the words of Winston Churchill: “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” As she looks toward the future, her talent, drive, and strong support system promise a bright path ahead.
We wish this exceptional Lady Titan all the best in her academic and athletic pursuits. With her dedication and passion, there’s no doubt she will continue to achieve greatness. The best is yet to come for her.
